For this task a model of a space-based escape pod was to be created using Maya. This will then be textured and animated for task 4 and 5.

Initial concept:

The Saturn V rocket, although launched in 1969 is still to this day the most powerful rocket ever successfully flown (Mashable, 2022). The Saturn V rocket is the rocket used to take Apollo 11 astronauts into space, and for the first time in history allowing humans to walk on the moon.

As tribute to this, I decided to model my escape pod the the lunar module of the Saturn V.

Due to the complexity of a programme like Maya, I decided I wanted to keep it relatively simple because I wanted to be able to create something within my current capabilities, rather than do something too complex and it be out of my reach, and not do it well.

When researching images I came across a Lego product that was sold previously that contained a model of the Saturn V Lunar Module. Once I saw this, I thought it might make it interesting if I created the escape pod using the Lego model as inspiration and then I could create the background for task 5 to match.

Final Model:

Following sketches of my initial concept I went into Maya and created the model ready for texturing in task 4.
