For the teamworking task, Robert Consoli asked the group to split into two teams of three and gave the task of creating a stop motion clip using wooden dolls, working together as a team.
Similar work can be found on YouTube, including a clip posted by HansSeg that gained over 649,000 views (HansSeg, 2006).
HansSeg uses both stop motion animation and also breaks the illusion in this video, by incorporating his hand as a prop in the video. This gives more credibility to the thought that the doll could be moving solo and is very effective in its purpose to entertain the audience.
Another good example of stop motion; one that is not using the wooden dolls is the following video created by a graphic designer for Neff and AO.com.
Reflection on the task:
For this task I was working in a group with Rana and Karolina. We quickly decided that for our video we would like to create a stop motion of two people minding their own business, when one hits the other and a fight ensues. Following the fight we planned for one of the dolls to walk away with the other appearing unconscious.
Prior to starting the project, we created a competition for the best stop motion with the other team in class. Competition can significantly increase productivity by increasing the pressure on an individual and motivating them to try harder (GOV.UK, 2015). Looking back on this project, it does seem that the element of competition definitely did impact our productivity for the teamworking project, but because of this extra motivation, I feel that I did try to take over at times, which is something that I identified as something to work on previously. Competition could also be seen as a negative, in that although I felt more motivated to get the work done, at times I was rushing to ensure completion and this made me careless in some aspects as I was not being as careful when recording the video and several times, you can see Rana’s hand moving this doll because of this. Although, this was edited out post production, it left significant gaps within the animation that would not have been there had I been more careful.
Inspired by the teamworking task, I then decided to use teamworking as the primary element when working at my internship in teaching. I created a task based on my knowledge (in advertising), and used my boomer packaging as a resource for my teaching. I then used the competition element to encourage the children to create a poster advertising their own poster for the venue that I am interning at.
