Modern Collage Research and Christiana Couceiro

A collage is a piece of artwork that takes fragments of photographs, images and artwork, and combines them to create a new image that can have meaning for the creator or the viewer (Dabner et al., 2020). One of the methods used to create collages is through Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop allows users to create images with transparent backgrounds, allowing for a seamless image when combined.

One artist that uses modern collage is Peter Horvath. His work presents as quite surreal and he often uses a variety of colours with seemingly dull images. He takes aspects of older looking images and combines them with bright colours and varying textures, to create new artwork with a message.

Another artist that uses collage is Christiana Couceiro. The following are examples of their work.

Following research of Christiana Couceiro’s work and taking inspiration from the pieces, the following pieces of work were created.
