Rooted in Hull meets with the new students of BA (Hons) Graphic Design at the University of Hull.

Rooted in Hull, established in 2014 is a local business which manages to combine business, education and community to successfully educate local people on growing and eating good food. Formed by two friends, Adrian and Mark they have successfully built a community that shares ideas, skills and produce, to make Hull more food resilient (Rooted in Hull, N/A). Though their success has not come without hurdles; for example, notice on the land they use currently is three months and can be given at any time, so they use containers to grow their stock, called a “farm in a box” (Rooted in Hull, N/D).
Rooted in Hull welcomes people of all backgrounds to learn new skills, including ex-offenders, people who are retired, addicts in recovery and those suffering with mental health problems. Rooted in Hull treats everybody equally regardless of circumstance, and look to bring the community together. They provide food boxes for those living in poverty, and have a farm shop and kitchen which offers local, good food at as low a price as they can afford.

On the 2nd November 2020, Adrian came to see the new cohort of students for the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at The University of Hull. It was discussed how Rooted in Hull and the students could help each other; by Rooted in Hull getting ideas from the students on how to raise funds for the business, and the students getting to experience a real client so early in their training. Adrian posed the question of how to raise more money for the people that really need it who are a part of Rooted in Hull and the students are now currently working on ways to accomplish this.
